Photo Editing

Take a look through this overview of helpful techniques to improve the quality of your photos.

  • Exposure
    • Look at the histogram make sure nothing is off the chart
  • Temperature / Color Correction
    • Color Correction is needed most in indoor settings when everything is yellow looking. Just take the eyedropper, point it at a paper or white or grey, then make it a little warmer.
    • If it is a night time shot and the colors are all off, it’s better to make the image black and white
  • Clarity and Contrast
    • Don’t use clarity on people
    • Clarity is good for landscapes and distant detail, just don’t overuse. The general rule is 10 to 15 and to help with contrast and details.
  • Noise Removal
    • If it is really needed and apparent
    • Don’t make it look like a watercolor
  • Cropping and Straightening
    • Lock the original aspect ratio when doing the first edit
    • Straighten it if the horizon is off
  • Lens Correction
    • Very useful for group photos where the people at the end are distorted
    • Group shots look great with a telephoto if you can do it
    • Straighten it if the horizon is off
  • Saving out the photo
    • JPEG highest quality in a ‘BEST’ folder
